Owner by Design

The coaching I wish I'd had when I started my franchise.

14 years in the franchise business. Sold at $4.8M. Rookie of the Year my first year. Franchisee of the Year multiple times after that. Looking back, the thing I was really building the whole time was a business I could own instead of one that owned me. Owner by Design is the coaching program built around that, whether you're a month in or ten years deep.

The Gap

The gap the franchisor's training doesn't close.

Two shapes of owner tend to land in this program, and it's the same program for both.

You might be brand-new. Just finished the franchisor's training, feeling ready to go, wanting to set things up right from the start. Which is smart. What the training doesn't cover is how to build the business so it doesn't route back to you six months in. Get that piece right early and you skip years of hassle you'd otherwise be paying for later.

Or you might already be a year or five or ten in. You already know the shape it's taken. You're in every hire, every escalation, every closeout. You take a Friday off and something breaks. You try to book a week's vacation and can't quite exhale, because you know what your phone's going to look like when you get back.

The part that stings, and it stings the same at month 6 or year 10, is this. If you tried to sell the business tomorrow, a buyer would look at how much of it lives in your head and pay you accordingly. Which means a lot less than the number you have in your head.

That gap between what the business is worth on paper and what it's worth without you is the whole problem. Not because you're doing anything wrong. Because nobody ever taught you to build for the day you'd want out. And the earlier you start, the less you have to unwind later.

The Promise

What Owner by Design is built to give you.

Two things, and they end up being the same thing.

A business that runs without you.

The standard, the judgment, and the authority that live in your head today live somewhere else six months from now. Your team makes the call. Customers get the same experience whether you were there or not. You stop being the bottleneck.

A sellable asset.

The same shape that gives you your Fridays back is the shape a buyer pays a premium for. Leadership depth, documented systems, a predictable marketing engine, and results a new owner can step into. That is how you get from “the owner is the business” to “the business is worth something.”

The program is built for owners who want optionality. Sell it, keep it and step back, hand it to family, ride it into year 20. All of those become choices instead of the one path your current business allows.

What's Inside

A coaching program with a curriculum inside it, not the other way around.

Six phases, taught in about 30 minutes a day, and every module is a conversation with your coach about your business, not a video you watch alone.

Two ways to move through it. The first two phases build the foundation everyone needs, mindset and operational stability. After that you can keep going linearly, or the coach routes you to the phase your business needs most right now. The goal is you run through all of it eventually, in whatever order actually helps.

Phase 00

Blueprint

Get set up. Intake with the HiPer8™ Coach so it knows your business, your team, and your numbers. Baseline the Freedom Map. And a short preview of what you're actually building toward, so the daily work has a target from day one.

Phase 01

Think Like an Owner

The mindset work. Operator by default versus architect by intent. The belief chain that sits upstream of every result. The HiPer8™ principles Alan uses with every client. Nothing downstream lands if this piece doesn't land first.

Phase 02

Build the Foundation

Operations that don't route back to you, a culture with a real purpose behind it, financials read properly, hiring for mindset. The base a scaling business actually needs before it scales.

Phase 03

Build the Engine

Marketing that returns more than it costs. Consultative selling. A sales process that produces consistent results whether you're in the room or not. Revenue built to strengthen operations instead of straining them.

Phase 04

Design for Leverage

The delegation ladder in the right order. Leadership development that replaces dependence. Redefining your role from builder to steward, so participation in the day-to-day becomes a choice instead of a job.

Phase 05

Optionality and Exit

What buyers actually score you on. How to prep for a sale without letting the operation slip. And the ongoing coaching rhythm you hand into after the course ends, because the work doesn't stop at the finish line, it changes shape.

The Freedom Map

Know the one thing that matters most next.

A diagnostic that runs through the whole program, scoring six areas of your business and pointing you at the one that matters most next, so the work is never abstract.

The HiPer8™ Coach

An AI coach that knows your business.

Trained on Alan's material and methods that turns every module into a conversation about your business, not a case study you have to translate. Built on 14 years of franchise ownership, top-performer awards, and the exit playbook that came out of actually doing it.

The Difference

Every module is a conversation with your coach about your business, not a video you watch alone.

That's the difference between a course you buy and a coaching program you actually finish. Owner by Design is built around the coaching, and the material lives inside it.

Fit

Who this is for, who it's not for.

This is for you if…

  • âś“You own a franchise, whether you just started or you've been running it for years.
  • âś“You want the business to eventually run without you being the constant variable.
  • âś“You care what the business is worth when you're ready to hand it off.
  • âś“You want real results and you're willing to grow as an owner and a leader to get them.

This isn't for you if…

  • âś•You haven't bought a franchise yet (start with the Franchise Owner Fit Assessment).
  • âś•You're looking for a list of tactics you can copy without doing the deeper work of growing as a leader.
  • âś•You want a course you binge in a weekend and shelve.

About Alan

14 years. One franchise. Sold at $4.8M.

I owned a ShelfGenie franchise in Western Washington for 14 years and sold it at $4.8M. Rookie of the Year my first year. Franchisee of the Year multiple times after that.

That didn't happen because I worked more hours than anyone else. It happened because I built the business to be worked on instead of worked in. Which gave me the time freedom to actually be a top performer and still have a life.

The reason I got into coaching is to help other franchise owners get there without waiting 14 years to figure it out. Owner by Design is the coaching program I wish someone had put in front of me at year one.
